Tell us a little about yourself:
My name is Brian Mauer and I am the co-owner of Beyond Driven, LLC. I am 32 years young and happily married to Aimie Phu-Mauer. Together, we have a 3 year old son Kaison who is quite the handful and are happily expecting another child in September. I am a full-time train dispatcher for the Union Pacific Railroad. While I love the high stress/pressure of directing train traffic, I am unbelievably excited to finally be doing something I am passionate about! Outside of work, I am a gym rat! I don’t care what it is. If it is physical activity, I enjoy it. I even partake in some crossfit which is a little taboo amongst most bodybuilders.
Tell us about your accomplishments:

- 2005/2008 NANBF Bluffs Classic- Open Short 1st Place

I am currently prepping for some 2013 Spring shows including my pro-debut at the 2013 NGA Heart of America in Peoria, IL. Many people ask me what the end goal is and why I do what I do. I absolutely love the “grind” of a prep. I like the stage at the finish line, but nothing tests your mental/physical fortitude like a 20-24 week prep and that is what draws me to the sport. It is a great feeling to walk out on stage and know that you did everything in your power to bring your very best on game day!
What are you most proud of?
Personally, I take pride in being the best father and husband I can be. Being the youngest of six children, family has always taken precedence over anything else. Being there for one another and having someone to count on is big in my book. Professionally……..when I was 20 years old, I shared some personal goals with my future wife that I hoped to accomplish at various time frames in my life. They stretched all the way to age 35. While I won’t share the goals in this post, I am thrilled to say the majority have a checkmark next to them, and sooner than expected I might add. I have 3 years left to grind out the last few remaining, including an IFPA Pro Card!!
What is your favorite Beyond Driven protein powder flavor and favorite way to prepare Beyond Driven protein powder?
I struggle to choose between vanilla caramel and rocky road. I keep it simple, using 1cup of almond milk, lots of ice/water, and adding either Walden’s Farms peanut butter to the vanilla caramel or Walden’s Farm chocolate syrup to the rocky road. Both make some pretty mean pancakes as well! (Vanilla caramel with some PB tastes like a freaking butterfinger!!)
I’m pretty excited to share this recipe. No make that super excited. I know it looks like your average decent healthy recipe, but why am I so excited? Because my eighteen year old daughter made it. If you happen to know us well, two years ago we were in such a difference place in our lives – that if you told me I would be blogging about her making something healthy I would have laughed in your face.
- This recipe represents change.
- Lots of change.
- Good change.
- Awesome change.
- Get choked-up-for-no-reason change.
Yes, it’s good recipe. Good stuff. You are going to want to make it, even if it’s just to appease me.
Here it goes:
- 112 grams fat free Chobani Greek yogurt
- 10 grams (1/3 serving) Beyond Driven Rocky Road Isolate
- 30 grams dry quick oats
- 2 oz. blueberries
- 2 oz. strawberries, diced
- Splash of almond milk
- Walden’s chocolate syrup
- Cinnamon to taste.
Mix the Greek yogurt and the Beyond Driven Isolate together until well mixed. Scoop half of this mixture in the bottom of a jar, cup or bowl. Add half of the dry oats on top of the yogurt/protein powder mixture. Add half of the blueberries and strawberries. Add a splash of almond milk. Repeat. Pour a tablespoon of Walden’s chocolate syrup and cinnamon on top. Let sit overnight in the refrigerator and enjoy the next day.
